Behind Every Great Talent There are Courses Like Ledgeview

With just essentials such as talent, a perverse joy of repetative practise and competitive instinct Ledgeview players like resident star Nick Taylor and fellow 2008 U.S. Amateur qualifiers Lucas Bogdan and Adam Hadwin would still be very good.
But for those three and seven others on golf scholarships scattered to and fro around the continent, there's an added ingredient. That's a staff and membership at Ledgeview that takes the long view it's good for all to have talented young players doing extraordinarily well wherever they tee it up. "I can't say enough about the way our boys have been treated," said Jay Taylor, proud father of rambunctious sons Josh and Nick , who spent long summer vacation days underfoot at Ledgeview from early morning until late in the evening. "I know that our guys weren't angels, either."
Course rules don't allow juniors to play until after 1 p.m., so the Taylor kids and lots of others including Lucas Bogdan and Adam Hadwin would hit balls at the six-stall mini range or dreaming up putting and chipping contests on the practise green.
Head pros Ed Tougas (1984-2000) and current head man Jason Smith, who was a junior member dating back to the 1980s have helped create an atmosphere so the junior members can excel. And greens superintendent Chad Burns has also been at Ledgeview for 18 years, too. Both he and Smith hire willing youngsters.
That former PGA Tour player Ray Stewart and junior grad Andrew Smeeth, who have both enjoyed some success in the pro ranks have ties to the club doesn't hurt either. CTV/Sportsnet broadcaster Dan Murphy, who grew up there, swears by the place, too.
