31st Annual Ladies Tournament

Saturday's opening round presented one of golf's rare spectacles, as the short par-three 14th hole was host to two holes-in-one.

Mimi Lam and Sandy Young were the two lucky ones to accomplish the feat, and according to Lang, the excitement of getting the ace was enough to make one of the two ladies break out into tears of joy.

"I came out to that hole to give the Marshall a break and he just looked so excited," said Heather Lang.

"I saw one of the girls coming off the green in tears, so I asked 'what'? and she said 'I just got my first hole-in-one."

The 14th hole was playing just 110 yards on Saturday over a gully, and some little mounds in and around the green made it virtually impossible to see a hole-in-one from the tee box, said Lang.

The weather this past weekend also held out and the clouds that covered most of the Lower Mainland on Saturday cleared on Sunday afternoon, and with a course that was in great shape, this year's tournament went as well as could be imagined, said sponsorship and media relation's co-ordinator Lee Holmberg.

"This tournament was a tremendous success," said Holmberg.

"The course was excellent, we had some great weather, although it looked a little threatening at times and we really enjoyed the tournament."

This year's tournament also saw a new champion crowned, as one of the hole-in-one queens, Young took home top prize with a two-day score of 135. Young plays regularly at Marine Drive Golf Club.

Val Haslam shot the lowest two-day total out of the 26 Ledgeview members that competed in this year's event, shooting 141 and capturing top spot in the first flight.

Sunday's luncheon had a raffle draw with proceeds going to breast cancer.
