Golfers Make a Splash During Steeplechase
By Jim Anderson

A steeplechase is a race, usually cross country, where the racers must deal with obstacles, including sizeable bodies of water.
That would accurately describe Ledgeview’s Mixed Steeplechase, held May 20, when torrential rains soaked the course. The committed golfers, however, were undeterred, and some feel that people who play in monsoons should be committed.
Leading his team to victory and proving once again that blondes do have more fun was Mike (aka ABBA) Jackson. Bob Chartier, Suzette Chartier, and Benita Sawkins completed the quartet who reportedly sang a rousing a capella version of Dancing Queen to celebrate.
In recent men’s action, the VIP Tournament was won by Larry Orwick and Richard Wojtowicz, who are buying new Hummers with their winnings. Pro shop pundits described the very popular victory as “striking a mighty blow for the full figured golfer.”
I see James Lepp tied for 13th in the latest Canadian Tour event on the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. (I think it’s great that we’ve annexed Mexico as our 11th province and I intend to attend several curling bonspiels there this winter). It seems as if James is relocating his groove and it would be nice if local fans would get out and support him in the upcoming Greater Vancouver Charity Classic to be held at Hazelmere June 18-24.
The Ladies Amateur, sponsored by John B. Hambley, C.A., is being held June 23-24, so it’s time to get your entries in, ladies.
