Nick Taylor wins the BC Junior Championship
|
Nick Taylor had no problems recording birdies during his first three rounds but it was a flawless bogey-free final round of 2-under par 70 that proved the difference as the 18-year-old from Abbotsford captured the 2006 BCGA BC Junior Boys Championship in Cranbrook. (July 7/06)
"I was making putts and hitting the fairways when I needed to,” said Taylor, whose 11-under par 277 total was two shots better than Rafael Lee of Burnaby, the 2004 champion. "I was more consistent with every aspect of my game and trying not to take any dumb shots. The course was awesome and everything was really good all week.
En route to his first provincial golf title, Taylor posted scores of 68, 71, 68 the first three days at CRANBROOK GOLF CLUB and recorded 14 birdies but over his final 36 holes he had only one bogey and began Friday's final round in a four-way tie for first and holding only a one shot lead.
Kevin Spooner of West Vancouver, Ian Mulder of Abbotsford and Dale Stypula of Cranbrook finished in a three-way tie for third place at 8-under 280.
A playoff for the final two spots on the B.C. Team earned Spooner and Mulder an opportunity to join Taylor and Lee on the team that will represent British Columbia at the 2006 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, August 7th-10th at Sussex Golf and Country Club in Sussex, New Brunswick.
Ledgeview juniors in the event included, Nick Taylor (1st - 277), Ian Mulder (T3rd - 280), Adam Hadwin (T9th - 283), Brett Webster (17th - 288), Lucas Bogdan (20th - 291), Blair Coan (T50 - 303),
and Brett Stewart (T53rd - 304).
Congratulations to all of our juniors for a great showing.
