Watson Wins SR. British Open
And Our Own RAY STEWART is 9th

(July 24/05) While Tom Watson displayed his magic of old, winning the Sr. British Open, Ray Stewart generated some memories of his last Scottish triumph.

Producing his best round of the tournament on the final day vaulted Abbotsford's Ray Stewart into a tie for 9th place in the Sr. British Open in Scotland, not far from the scene of his last international triumph in 1994 at famed St. Andrews.

Stewart's final round of 65, tying him for second lowest score of the tournament, undoubtedly was a most gratifying way to end his return journey to Scotland where 11 years ago he teamed with Dave Barr and Rick Gibson at old St. Andrews to capture the Dunhill Cup for Canada. In that event, Ray defeated Fred Couples in the finals to help the Canadian team defeat the United States and win the Dunhill Cup.

In 2005, battling high winds and changing course conditions, consistent with coastal links courses, Stewart took advantage of calmer conditions during Sunday's final round. He scored his second eagle-3 of the Open---on the same sixth hole he eagled in round one then tripled bogeyed in round two---and added six birdies to offset a pair of bogeys. He never did figure out how to play the 360-yard par-4 eighth hole that he bogeyed each day but he ran a string of four consecutive birdies on the back nine that boosted him into the ninth place and earned him a cheque for approximately $41,000 Canadian.

Congratulations Ray, from all your friends at "The Ledge"..............
