2010 Spring Classic
Wailing Station on stage at the Social Spring Classic
Weekend Recap

The weekend started with a big bang on Friday night in the clubhouse. Over 70 people turned out for the Social, which included a wine-tasting hosted by Peller Estates, tasty appetizers prepared by J.D and Amanada (Manny), followed by the musical stylings of Wailing Station featuring Ledgeviewites Dan Cripps and Michael Fisher.

Special thanks go out to the generous door prizes provided by Galaxy Bowl (Richard Oldenborger, Epicure Selections (Eileen Fisher) and Red Pencil Editing (Danielle Knowles) - and to Jason Smith and his staff for keeping the party goers healthily fed and imbibed. A very special thank you to Gerry Charles for putting the finishing touches on the table decor - the tulips were a nice touch. And I can't (must not) forget my better half and kids for working the door!

And then there was golf...
The golf course was in extraordinary shape thanks to Chad Burns, Fred Robinson and the rest of the grounds crew. The skies were sunny all weekend and the wind was gusting. The greens were rolling nicely and seemed even quicker on Sunday, with some challenging pin placements. All in all, the venue proved to be a good test for 36 holes, worthy of an opening Club 'major'! Seventy-five golfers in all braved the challenge to complete both rounds.

Day 1 - On the Men's side, Erv Froese posted the low score with a scorching 72, whle Hez Lang's 84 held up on the Ladies side. Arguably, the shot of the day (and perhaps the tournament) was Michael Fisher's shot from 130yds on hole #3, which found the cup for an eagle 2.

Day 2 - For the Men, Erv Froese was having a steady day 2 until an injury on hole #14 put a damper on his round. Ultimately George Christensen followed his Saturday score of 74 with a 71 on Sunday to capture the Men's Gross Championship. On the net side Tom Gray was victorious with consecutive 81's for a net total of 138.

On the Ladies side Hez Lang was successful in holding off all challengers, firing an 89 on Sunday to take the Ladies Gross Championship. Grace Rustulka's 147 total net was good enough to win the Ladies Net Championship.

In summary, the weekend was a lot of fun and a great way to open our 2010 Club Season. All levels of golfers had something to play for as the results demonstrated. The weekend was a shining example of all the members, staff and volunteers coming together to produce an event to remember. On that note, big props to all the members who helped out with scoring, such as Hez Lang, Leslie Howard, Erv Froese, Jane Rempel, Jon Revane and especially Tom Hall and Barclay Neilson - and let's not forget Kyle Hadwin, Tom Dodd and Courtnee in the Pro Shop.

Perhaps you saw Peter Dobson out on the course directing pace of play...nice work Peter!

It was fitting that the Spring Classic took place on the same weekend as The Masters, as it is sure to be a 'major' tournament for the Ledgeview members for years to come.

Thank you for a great weekend!
Michael Fisher, Club Captain
