Ron Carlton,
Our Super Senior!

Shooting low at Ledgeview is a daunting task. The par 70 layout is rated as one of the toughest golf courses in the Province. Ron Carlton not only scores well here, he shoots his age on a regular basis and he wins tournaments.

Ron, 75 years young, has been shooting his age since he was 65 and he recently won the Ledgeview Super Seniors Championship for the second year in a row with rounds of 73 and 75 over the two day event.

Carlton has been playing golf for 40 years since his army service as a physical education instructor in New Brunswick. He golf's every day, weather permitting and doesn't just restrict him self to one course. His highest total of games in one calendar year is 368. His 16 holes-in-one include 13 he calls “confirmed” when someone else played with him. The other 3 went in when he was playing alone.

He loves Ledgeview because “in order to play well here, you must use all of your clubs and be able to play a large variety of shots.” He also states that “most of all, you had better be a good putter.”

In 1998, at the age of 65, he scored a 65, just two strokes off the then course record of 63. He's been shooting his age every year since and this year managed it on his birthday.

Not only did he win the Super Seniors title this year but also came 3rd in the Men's Club Championship and won low net.

A local Doctor stated recently that the best medicine he could recommend was to play golf regularly since his 'fittest older patients' were golfers. Ron Carlton is a perfect example of this adage. On the day this photograph was taken, Ron shot a 71 which included birdies at 3 holes.
